Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
Our mailing address is #101 – 1001 West Broadway, Vancouver BC, V6G 4E4. Classes are held at Langara College and other various locations.
Where do I start? What level course should I take?
If you have never taken a wine or spirits course before, it is recommended that you start with the WSET Level 1 Foundation. That being said, if you already have a basic level of wine and spirits knowledge, it is possible to start with the WSET Level 2 Intermediate or Professional. Although there is no required progression of levels between the various WSET courses, it is recommended that you take WSET Level 2 prior taking WSET Level 3 Advanced. WSET Level 3 Advanced is challenging even for people already working in the wine hospitality or retail sectors.
The majority of our tasting seminars are fun and relaxed sessions that are suitable for all levels of enthusiasts. Advanced seminars will be flagged as such when offered.
Is there a final exam?
Yes. Each WSET course has a multiple-choice final exam (Level 3 Advanced has a tasting exam component). The tasting seminars do not have a final exam.
Do I get a certificate when I finish my course?
Only the WSET courses offer a certificate upon successfully passing the final exam. The results are not known for approximately 4 to 8 weeks as the exams are sent to the UK for marking. The tasting seminars do not have a certificate upon completion.
What is the difference between the WSET courses and the tasting seminars?
The WSET courses cover a wide range of topics based on a set syllabus and have a final exam for the purposes of certification.
The tasting seminars are focused on a particular theme and the topics that are covered can vary depending on how the participants focus their discussion. These seminars are for pure pleasure and appreciation of the theme with no final exam.
Is it possible to organize a wine tasting for my group of friends or clients?
Yes, it is. Let us organize a private wine class for your group with one of our instructors as your personal wine guide.
Can I give a WSET course, workshop, or tasting seminar as a gift?
BC Wine School programs are a popular gift for birthdays, anniversaries, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, college/university graduation, Christmas and Hanukkah. Register online for the program you wish to give as a gift and let us know who the gift recipient is in appropriate section of the form or contact us by phone (604.684.6000) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) in order to arrange your gift.
Is there a dress code?
Unless otherwise indicated, casual is perfectly fine. In addition, out of courtesy towards the other participants, please avoid wearing strong perfumes, colognes or deodorants which interfere with the ability to smell and taste.
How many people are in a class?
Classes typically accommodate 12 students. This ensures a teaching environment with plenty of interaction.
When will I receive my course materials?
Level 1, 2 and 3 course materials will be given after registration and confirmation of payment, on the first day of classes. If you wish to receive this ahead of time, please send your request to email@example.com and we can arrange to mail it to you.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Online: Visa, MasterCard, PayPal
In person: Visa, MasterCard, cash, certified cheque or money order
Are you wheelchair accessible?
